Our residents are employed by Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH) and are represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU), the largest housestaff union in the United States. This partnership ensures structured advocacy, transparent contracts, and strong protections around salary, benefits, and working conditions.
Time Off & Wellness
We are committed to supporting resident well-being through generous and flexible time off:
3 weeks (15 days) of paid vacation for all residents
Additional 1 week (5 days) of PTO for PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents
Up to 20 days of sick leave annually
Up to 5 days of educational leave for conferences and scholarly work
13 County-recognized holidays, including Jan 1, 3rd Mon in Jan (MLK), 3rd Mon in Feb (Presidents’ Day)), March 31 (Cesar Chavez Birthday), Last Monday in May (Memorial Day), June 19 (Juneteenth), July 4, 1st Mon in Sept (Labor Day), 2nd Mon in Oct (Indigenous Day/Columbus Day), Nov 11 (Veteran’s Day), Thanksgiving Day (4th Thurs in Nov), Black Friday (Fri after Thanksgiving), Dec 25. If a holiday falls on Saturday, Friday is observed; if a holiday falls on Sunday, Monday is observed.

This structure provides significantly more protected time away from clinical duties than many residency programs, supporting both wellness and professional development.

$250/day during orientation
Educational stipend: $1,000 (PGY-1), $1,800 (PGY-2/3)
USMLE/COMLEX Step 3 reimbursement
100% coverage of California medical license fees
7.5% employer contribution to a Deferred Compensation Plan
$1,400 annual meal stipend for use at County facilities
Relocation reimbursement (up to $1,500) for eligible interns
Free parking and mileage reimbursement for required rotations
